Astrology and Character Structure

Character Structure refers to deep psychological patterns whose shape takes form intrapsychically and interpersonally, giving rise to the shape of our experience of reality: perception, emotion, thoughts, behaviour, relationship. Character seems most often described by the conversations taking place between the figures of the Moon and her Nodes, the Sun, the Angles, and multi-planet configurations such as stelliums, grand trines, t-squares, and yods. Taken together, these high-profile features in the sky seem to sketch our own profile – they describe both how life experiences contour our character; as well as how character contours our experience of life.

Astrology also invites us to reconsider the word ‘structure’ in this situation. The picture of the sky at our birth reminds us that these features are not static in nature but are in multiple modes of active relation with one another. What psychologists call character structure – and in its extreme, personality styles and disorders – could better be described as a dynamic ecosystem of stories and myths and images that seem to organize our lives and our very sense of self at a deep level. In this webinar, we will explore how to astrologically engage with stories and images of character, bringing a sense of imagination, possibility, flexibility, and spontaneity to the myths that seem most fundamental to the ongoing dream of who we are.
